A Spotlight on Two of Our Team Members

Updated: Oct 1

A spotlight on two of our team members

We at the Center for Holistic Psychotherapy work as a team of therapists, each with a unique approach to counseling, while employing empirical modalities to help each client in reaching their therapeutic goals. What makes us a close knit practice is we each understand the need to be professional, and yet, it is imperative to be compassionate and understand that each client has value.

Meet Sami Ceccio, Licensed Resident in Counseling:

Many people experience a disconnect from their sense of self, whether due to social media, relationships, or societal pressures. This disconnection can lead to feelings of confusion, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Given the impact a diminished sense of self can have on mental health, I like to incorporate approaches that guide clients towards reconnecting with their values.

Utilizing mindfulness encourages clients to be present with themselves and allow for a deeper connection with their thoughts and emotions. By exploring their core values, clients can identify what is meaningful and important to them, which can guide them towards a sense of authenticity and fulfillment. Using both of these approaches can hopefully assist clients in cultivating a strong sense of self.

Meet Martha Aveni, Licensed Resident in Counseling:

I see a lot of stress, tension, sadness and anxiety. People come in with what I call phase of life concerns, maybe they are questioning how to approach a new path or make a tough decision. In these cases, we engage in decision-making and address practical solutions. I see relationship issues; some of which are very serious, and others may be more like growing pains. These relationship cases often involve learning new ways of communicating and gaining greater understanding of the other. These cases often involve building back trust: exploring why things occurred, and how to achieve newfound recovery. I have cases which require a deep dive into past traumas and unresolved grief or pain. Once these issues are brought out into the light, they often lose their power to live within. My primary approach is CBT: distressing mental and emotional responses can be modified through reframing the thought process. While we cannot change an activating event in life, we can examine and change core beliefs and ultimately change behavior. I am a generally warm and approachable person, so I believe therapeutic trust is often established early on. While trust in your therapist is important, I believe I also throw in some humor and nerdiness. Mostly, however, I am a professional who I believe can ably facilitate where you want to go in counseling.
